Montreal - Gildan Activewear is to wind down its operations in Mexico and shift its production to existing plants already running in Central America and the Caribbean.

Reporting a dip in sales and net earnings in its third quarter, mainly due to weak sales of activewear in the imprintables channel both in North America and internationally, combined with lower sock sales, Gildan said the closures were aimed at increasing operational efficiency across its manufacturing base.
