The Leading Magazine for Knitting & Hosiery Technology

Warp knitted fabrics producer marks a decade of environmental work in true Italian style.

Everything began in 2007, when EUROJERSEY, a leader in the Italian-made warp knit fabrics sector due to its patented range of Sensitive® Fabrics, decided to embark on new path towards sustainable textile production. The aim was to convert costs into value by turning its investments in state-of-the-art technology into an efficiency advantage, which resulted in significantly lower environmental impacts. The SensitivEcoSystem ® project was born. An eco-friendly development program focusing on the production of Sensitive® Fabrics. This program encourages clients, suppliers and consumers to partner on the creation of a sustainable production chain.

With ever greater efficiency, the latest generation technology gives EUROJERSEY the tools to precisely manage the whole production chain – from knitting to dyeing, finishing and printing. Years of research and targeted investments means it achieves not only energy savings, but respect for the environment through greater much less consumption of natural resources.

Since 2008, EUROJERSEY has met its total energy needs from renewable sources with a solar PV system producing around 17,000 kWh/year, which powers the company’s office building.

Additionally, the installation of a cutting-edge solvent recovery and purification system yields about 30 million litres of hot water per year with an energy saving of over 200 tonnes of oil equivalent. Thanks to the heat generated by this system, EUROJERSEY has significantly reduced the annual quantity of natural gas it uses by 200,000 m3, saving 400 tons of carbon dioxide and 12,000 litres of oil from being emitted.

It has also reduced the wasteful use of paper, cardboard and cellophane by adapting the packaging to the actual size of the fabric rolls to be dispatched.

Waste recovery

Fabric scraps and cellophane from the entire production cycle are given new life through recycling. All the company’s Sensitive® Fabrics’ textile waste follows two main processes: either turned into new regenerated nylon or recycled polymer for new uses in the automotive or home textile sectors. Since 2016, it has converted and recycled 280 tons of textile waste.

EUROJERSEY was among the first Italian companies to be granted the Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) and the Carbon Footprint Declaration, based on the evaluation of the environmental impact of one square metre of fabric from the Sensitive® Fabrics’ range. These goals have been verified and validated by CERTITEX (Bureau Veritas Group).
