Islamabad - Exports of knitwear from Pakistan continued to surge in the second half of 2021 with the sector seeing a 35 per cent increase to US$2.5 billion, up from $1.85 billion in the same period last year.
Overall, textiles exports were up 26 per cent to $9.38 billion during the first half of the current fiscal year 2021-22, as compared to $7.44 billion in the corresponding half last year, according to the latest figures from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.
Among the other sectors increasing significantly were cotton yarn exports, which increased by 52.3 per cent to $610.4 million during the half, from $400.73 million last year.
In other sectors, exports of bed wear increased 19 per cent to $1.65 billion, towels were up 17.5 per cent to $523.7 million and readymade garments up 22.9 per cent to $1.83 billion.
Pakistan also saw a significant increase in textile imports. Total imports were up 66.2 per cent to $40.6 billion during the six months under review.
