Scottish knitwear firms focus on strong export growth
Scottish knitwear firms received a boost this week with news that the country?s textile industry has exceeded sales levels it didn?t expect to hit for at least another seven years, prompting the outlining of a new set of targets.
Warp knitting machine builder Karl Mayer has expanded the range of courses available at its training academies, reportedly attended by representatives from The North Face, Gore and Pearl Izumi, in India, China and Germany, with workshop topics including machine operation and repair, warp knitting technology, fabric analysis and advanced courses on specific tricot and multibar raschel machines.
High-level speakers from Marks & Spencer, VF Corporation, Esprit, the Otto Group and the Sustainable Apparel Coalition, among others, featured at the Planet Textiles event on sustainability, which took place at the Kerry Hotel ? right alongside the Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics exhibition.
Eco-Textile Labelling Guide 2014 - Published May 2014
The?publishers of?Knitting Trade Journal,?in conjunction with Messe Frankfurt and backed by the European Outdoor Group, will publish a new, updated and improved?version of the Eco-Textile Labelling Guide in May 2014.
The printed ETLG is a 100 + page ?A5 booklet designed for manufacturers, retailers and?buyers who are committed to reducing the impact of textiles on the environment and?lists all the labels and environmental standards relevant to the global textile and clothing supply chain.
As well as covering raw materials, the 2014 edition of?ETLG will offer information on social criteria, such as Fairtrade, Fair labour, SA8000 etc., and textile processing?standards.
New additions will also include information on water standards,?energy use,?and sections on disposal and biodegradability.
