Prato - Italian luxury knitwear manufacturer Manteco has partnered with Shima Seiki Italia and renowned fashion designer Arman Avetikyan to create CircularKnit, a knitted garment that is said to be 100% recycled, 100% recyclable, and 100% waste-free.
Showcasing how technology, and sustainability can transform the future of fashion, the garment is knit with Manteco’s award-winning MWool yarn, made entirely from pre- and post-consumer materials, drastically reducing environmental impact.
Compared to generic virgin wool fibres, Mwool is said to reduce climate change impact by 99.2%, water use by 99.9%, and total energy consumption by 93.3%. These reductions are verified by peer-reviewed Life Cycle Assessments and EPD certifications.
It is also produced seamlessly using Shima Seiki’s WHOLEGARMENT technology, making the garments fully recyclable without disassembly, and is 100% waste-free, with the knitting technique ensuring that there is zero material waste by knitting garments directly from the yarn – including no cutting or scraps.
“This project isn’t just about creating garments, it's about rethinking how fashion can function responsibly at every step of the process, offering a real, scalable solution to some of the industry’s most pressing challenges: waste, resource depletion, and recyclability,” Manteco says.
“It shows that by prioritising circularity and collaboration, fashion can evolve into a smarter, cleaner, and more responsible system.”
